Greetings from the South Shore Watershed Association! We hope you had a chance to enjoy the beautiful weather this week. The majority of this week was spent working on our Amar project, planting a variety of trees and shrubbery near the Victoria-by-the-Sea estuary. With some extra trees and shrubs, we added new growth beside any withered vegetation to give the vegetation a fresh start.

After our tree planting, we completed a tree order. We assisted by unloading a tree delivery and organizing the trees and shrubs per order. Following this, we provided park maintenance by whipper-snipping and weeding the gardens of our parks. This includes Linden Hill Pond Park, Daryl Guignon Park, Webster’s Park, Lord’s Pond, and Noonan's Park. Weeding is important to prevent loss of nutrients from desired plants, prevent spread of plant diseases, pest control, and to maximize plant yield.
We finished off this week by completing stream assessments at stream East Westmoreland and West Tryon Headwater. Based on our observations we fixed up locations of previous years. Stream assessments allow us to evaluate and gather data on the physical, chemical, and biological aspects of the streams to determine the overall ecological health. To conclude the day, we completed more park maintenance.
Hope you all have a good weekend!
Love,
SSWA
